JHS is looking to help students be active on the way to school.
Walking improves students' mental and physical health and helps them do better academically as well, but we know it is not easy to get the students to do so on a regular basis. Challenges are very different for each family.
However, based on the Active School Travel (AST) survey twe did last spring, we know that weather, time pressures and personal safety issues are apparently the top three reasons why students are driven to school at Joseph Howe. But through this AST survey, we also learned that most of those who drive would let their children walk to school if they didn’t walk alone!
For this reason, our school is launching the Age-Friendly Walking School Bus Pilot Program, an intergenerational Walking School Bus program this Fall.
